Community area in km2: 89.54 km2.The community includes 3 settlements: the town of Voznesensk, the village of Novogrygorivka, and the village of Rakove. The Voznesensk community is the centre of the Voznesensk district, one of Mykolaiv region’s four districts.

History

The neighbourhood has a long history which unfolds in the Scythian  times, which is evidenced by archaeological finds of the Bronze Age, mounds of Scythian times, settlements of the first centuries AD. and Roman coins of the 2nd century BC. is.

In the 14th and early 15th centuries, the Tatar fortress Chichaklei stood at the place where the Mertvovod River flows into the Southern Bug. Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania destroyed the fortress and built a castle in its place.

The history of the town of Sokoly, an ancestor of the Voznesensk community,  originated from those times.

The town of Voznesensk itself was founded in 1795 and named after the church holiday of the Ascension [“Voznesinnya” – in Ukrainian transcription] of the Lord, therefore the Town Day is celebrated every year on a different day – this holiday.

The Voznesensk community is located at the intersection of three ways: the Southern Bug River, the national roads Kyiv – Kherson and Odesa – Dnipro, and the Odesa – Kyiv railway.

There are unique large lakes of fresh drinking water underneath the town. They are one of the sources of mineral water here.

Economy

The community is one of the largest suppliers of fresh radish in Ukraine.

In the village of Rakove, Voznesensk community, you can buy delicious and freshest crayfish.

There are 16 different sand and granite quarries around the community. Some of them have formed artificial lakes.

Today, there are 5 enterprises operating in the town which specialize in leather tanning and decoration, tailoring of women’s clothing and special wear for police, military and emergency services, production of building materials (bricks, tiles and foam concrete). Also, the facilities of the Sokolivske beer brewery are located and the Voznesensk food and flavouring factory is in operation here.

Motoball

Motoball and speedway are sports hallmark and boast of the town.

Voznesensk is the birthplace of the Voskhod Motorball Club, the venue of the European Championship (2011). During 2013-2014, the Voskhod Motoball Team became Ukraine’s champions in motoball. The motor track housing the competitions was built in 1974 and accommodates 10,000 spectators.

Besides the motor track, Voznesensk has 1 children’s sports school, 1 physical culture and health promotion centre with the Vodogray swimming pool, 2 stadiums, and 33 sports grounds. In total, there are more than 30 sports groups and clubs.

Education and Culture 

The community has 12 general education institutions, 12 preschool institutions, 2 vocational schools and a college.

Also, the community lives an active cultural life. Here is the museum of graphics of E.A. Kibryk, a prominent Ukrainian Soviet artist of Jewish origin who became famous thanks to illustrations for world literature pieces of work.

In addition to the main exposition of the graphic artist’s works, numerous art events and temporary exhibitions are held here. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the museum has become a place for rethinking the town’s role in the war. There is a temporary exhibition – Voznesensk: War and Peace – which presents the paintings by artist Andriyan Izmaylov which depict in fragments the consequences of the battles on the streets of Voznesensk, the town after liberation, and propaganda posters.

Also, Voznesensk has a local history museum, 2 music schools, 5 libraries, and more than 50 groups, art and craft schools, and interest clubs.

Community and War

On March 2, 2022, Russian troops entered the town and seized its part. A successful combat operation was carried out to protect our community. For two days, residents were at the epicentre of a brutal battle and under partial occupation.

80 separate amphibious assault brigades, territorial defence forces of the Mykolaiv region, police officers, and volunteer formations took part in the defence of Voznesensk.

Also, Ukraine’s Armed Forces blew up a road bridge to public highway H-24 Blagovishchenske-Mykolaiv and two railway bridges of the Odesa railway within the town and community in order to protect the Voznesensk community from the aggression of the Russian Federation. In view of active hostilities in the south, the town constitutes a front-line location and hosts internally displaced persons every day.

As a result of the Russian Federation’s aggression on the territory of the community, more than 280 houses and apartments, 5 schools and 3 kindergartens, shops, a swimming pool, other public and municipal institutions (library, territorial centre for social services, water supply and sanitation administrative buildings, dormitory and 3 playgrounds) were destroyed and damaged. The village dispensary was completely destroyed.

Other critical infrastructure assets, namely the gas pipeline and the power grid, were also affected. These networks were urgently restored by efforts of the relevant specialized services.

Local Self-Government 

Mayor Yevheniy Velychko is a born resident of the community. All this while he was with his people and helped in every possible way to defend his native land. The mayor says that now everyone dreams that the war will end as soon as possible.

Vision of the Future 

The community plans to restore and rebuild everything that was damaged by the enemy and has ambitious plans for the future as well as new projects.

It is primarily interested in implementing the following project ideas:

Construction of a 200 apartments’ residential building for families of the military,, displaced persons (refugees) and families who lost their homes as a result of hostilities;

Construction of the Multicentre social office;

Construction of a compost station;

Construction of a solid household waste processing line;

Construction of a crayfish farm;

Construction of a river port;

Construction of solar power plants;

Establishment of an agro-processing cluster with the creation of added value for the outputs of small and medium producers of vegetable, berry and fruit products;

Reconstruction of the town square;

Construction of a kindergarten;

Creation of a technological park.

Residents are ready to do their best to make the Voznesensk community successful and prosperous after Ukraine’s victory in this war.
